Postcard obession

So I fail at trying to post daily so there will be two posts today!

The first postcard I've ever received was from a person I've never met. This was when the new internet age started and if you're as old as I am now, you're probably familiar with mIRC (Internet Relay chat) and ICQ (I seek you!). I didn't have internet at home then so I had to pay for internet usage at the school library, where there was only one computer and you had to reserve your cyber time. There was no privacy and everyone would look over your shoulder and read your conversations and popped in their own line too. Fun times :p

However I did have one friend who I traded emails with. I'd write it all down in a paper, passed it to my classmate who then goes to her father's office to email him. Yea that's so strange cos you have a middleman reading private correspondence. Sadly I've lost touch with both friends. The internet friend moved and probably changed emails and my classmate, well it's a long personal story of hers which I can't share with you!
The only thing I have to remember my first internet friend by is a postcard from the Grand Canyon.

So over the years, I had many friends who studied abroad and migrated and I'd always ask
"Hey can you send me a postcard?" To which they always obliged.

Then I started gaming online. Yes I was very addicted but I also made very good friends from this small community. One was in the airforce and one was backpacking Europe. One of them got into a habit of sending me a postcard from every place he travelled to without any reminders from me. And then another good friend of mine had a life changing experience. He quit his very stable career from Network engineering to being closer to his love, airplanes, and became an air steward. So in the last 4 years I've had the odd postcard showing up in my mailbox and it's always a pleasure. It's the best present really.
