Rough play in the fells

Excerpt on back:
When the plants fight for living space, mainly the soil and climate decide where they grow.
The wind mixes the deck of cards and the snow deals them. The destiny of the plants is to
content themselves with their cards and play agaisnt each other as well as they can.

Fat from berries: What a Brown Bear feels after waking up from winter sleep is well-know
to us all. It makes your stomach rumble and your head dizzy - hunger!
The preferred spring meal for the Bear is a Moose, which has a difficult time
running away in the soft snow. The chase ends in a huge forehand stroke and a
crushing bite.
Preparing for winter, the king opf the forest eats lots, especially berries. The Bear has to tuck
in a huge number of berries,as it needs about one third of its weight, i.e. 50-100 kilograms,of fat to manage through the winter.

Bornean sun bear

The sun bear is the smallest, most aboreal and least known of the bear family (see number 2 in image on left) measuring between 120–150 cm long and between 60-78 cm high at the shoulder. Males tend to be larger than females, the former normally weighing between 30 and 70 kg, and the latter between 20 and 40 kg.

Unlike other bears, the sun bear's dark brown or black fur is short and sleek, probably due to the lowland climates it lives in.  On their chest sits a pale beige horseshoe shape marking which gives the sun bear its name being said to resemble a setting or rising sun. Similar colored fur can be found around the muzzle and the eyes.

Sleeping bear dunes

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a United States National Lakeshore located along the northwest coast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan in Leelanau County and Benzie County.
The park is named after a Chippewa legend of the sleeping bear. According to the legend, an enormous forest fire on the western shore of Lake Michigan drove a mother bear and her two cubs into the lake for shelter, determined to reach the opposite shore. After many miles of swimming, the two cubs lagged behind. When the mother bear reached the shore, she waited on the top of a high bluff. The exhausted cubs drowned in the lake, but the mother bear stayed and waited in hopes that her cubs would finally appear. Impressed by the mother bear's determination and faith, the Great Spirit created two islands (North and South Manitou Island) to commemorate the cubs, and the winds buried the sleeping bear under the sands of the dunes where she waits to this day. The "bear" was a small tree-covered knoll at the top edge of the bluff that, from the water, had the appearance of a sleeping bear. Wind and erosion have caused the "bear" to be greatly reduced in size over the years.

Mildred the Bear

Back of card: In 1968, Hugh Morton purchased one male and one female black bear with the intention of letting them loose into the wild. The female bear, named Mildred, refused to revert to the wild and Grandfather Mountain kept her enclosed for her own safety. In 1973, an environmental habitat was built for Mildred and her family. The habitats have been expanded over the decades to include many other animal species.
Thank you Amy for this awesome majestic bear!

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear (Ursus Arctos)
Once there were tens of thousands of these bears in North America. Today there
are about 1,000 left in Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. They measure
over six feet (standing on their hind legs) and weigh over 1,000 pounds. Their
yellowish-brown or black fur is tipped with white, hence the name grizzly.
The bear's catch of the day, thank you Cecilia for this card :)

Polar bear

The polar bear is classified as a vulnerable species, with eight of the nineteen polar bear subpopulations in decline.[7] For decades, large scale hunting raised international concern for the future of the species but populations rebounded after controls and quotas began to take effect.[citation needed] For thousands of years, the polar bear has been a key figure in the material, spiritual, and cultural life of Arctic indigenous peoples, and polar bears remain important in their cultures.

Montana bear

A grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribills) awakens in early spring
after a 3 - or 4-month winter hibernation and quickly begins the
search for insects, fish, carrior and small mammals. Weighing
between 300 and 800 pounds, combined with the ability to run 35
- 40 mph, it's best to keep a considerable distance, lest you
become the meal!
Thank you Jeff for this awesome winter bear!
