Lanterns of Vietnam

Every full moon nights, all electric lights are switched off in the old quarters of Hoi An. When the lanterns are lighted, they create a cozy and amazing atmosphere in the ancient town.

It's amazing to know that they continue this tradition, what a magical world it creates!

Cambodia

Angkor Thom Gate
On the road to the Preah Khan Temple
Preah Khan is a temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII. It is located northeast of Angkor Thom and just west of the Jayatataka baray, with which it was associated. It was the centre of a substantial organization, with almost 100,000 officials and servants. The temple is flat in design, with a basic plan of successive rectangular galleries around a Buddhist sanctuary complicated by Hindu satellite temples and numerous later additions. Like the nearby Ta Prohm, Preah Khan has been left largely unrestored, with numerous trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins.

Thank you Nathan!

Bagan

Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma(Myanmar). From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day. Paduang woman

Paduang hill tribe woman.
I once watch a documentary about a woman of this tribe taking of the neck rings off for the first time. Of course throughout the documentary it kept talking about how risky it was and maybe fatal. I thought if that was the case then they probably shouldn't have encouraged her to document a video just for the sake of it. But money is always a great seducer. X rays show that their necks do not actually grow longer but the collarbones are pushed down instead.
Mark of Thailand who sent me this card mentioned that taking of their rings would make their heads flop down due to having no muscles in their necks. A comical vision comes to mind but I have to say that I have my doubts on that.
Thank you Mark for the card :)

Hue, Vietnam

Kinh thành Huế , The Imperial City in Hue, is a walled fortress and palace in the former capital of Vietnam.

In the early morning hours of January 31, 1968, as part of the Tet Offensive a Division-sized force of North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong soldiers launched a coordinated attack on Huế seizing most of the city. During the initial phases of the Battle of Hue, due to Huế's religious and cultural status, Allied forces were ordered not to bomb or shell the city, for fear of destroying the historic structures; but as casualties mounted in the house-to-house fighting these restrictions were progressively lifted and the fighting caused substantial damage to the Imperial City. Out of 160 buildings only 10 major sites remain because of the battle, such as the Thái Hòa and Cần Thanh temples, Thế Miếu, and Hiển Lâm Các. The city was made a UNESCO site in 1993. The buildings that still remain are being restored and preserved. The latest and so far the largest restoration project is planned to conclude in 2015.
