Batik Cat

Such a novelty to get a postcard with batik cloth in a cat motif!

A special addition to my postcards made from different materials. 

We used to have greeting cards also with Batik cloth but it has now sadly

been discontinued.

Cork postcard

An amazing envelope came from Italy last Friday. Inside was  a maxicard of 

Giro Italia an annual stage bicycle race and a Cork postcard of Sardinia. I always

 thought that Portugal was the only country to have Cork postcards so it 

was interesting to find out that cork is a highly regarded resource .

Crystal Coast

Excerpt: The Crystal Coast is an 85-mile stretch of coastline n North Carolina

that extends from Cape Lookout National Seashore, which includes 56 miles of

protected beaches,westward to the New River. It is also known as the Southern

Outer Banks and is a popular area with tourist and second home owners in the summer.

Canadian Rockies

When I first saw this card,it was from the back and I noticed

first, the old stamps and the dotted lines and thought hey it

could be a bookmark, before reading the caption which said

"Postcard and Bookmark"! haha

Of course I could never bear to tear it off it's a neat little card

of this kind of card. Thank you very much Rob for the

Japan's Wooden Postcard

 

Thanks to a dear friend who was in Japan to hike the Nakasendo trail, who sent this card

from the postal town of Magome. It arrived with a bent corner but hopefully a little

super glue can put it right.

Cork!

 

It's Saturday and I have no mail so I thought to feature an unusual postcard from Portugal, a cork card featuring the Portugese Azulejos tiles of Portugese ships. 

Why do I like ships and hot air balloons?

If I was to say what I could remember from my elementary days in school it would be the subject on Portugese Explorers and Greek Myths,coupled with watching a lot of Indiana Jones with my father that fed my wonder on how people travelled long distances with the old fashioned method of sea travel.  Ever since then I always dreamt of being an adventurer, sailing on ships to discover new land,or flying in a hot air balloon into the unknown (blame 'Around the world in 80 days' for that one)

The odd thing was I never thought to visit Portugal ,especially when you're in some small corner in South East Asia, it seems like a place one only can dream about from the encyclopedia. Having set foot in Lisbon, sitting by the Monument of Discovery, and looking out over the Targus River, I wondered what those explorers thought about when they set sail  on the expedition to go beyond Africa.
