Green Lagoon

Laguna Verde is a salt lake in the southwest of the altiplano of Bolivia. It is located in the Potosi Department, Sur Lipez Province, on the Chilean border at the foot of the volcano Licancabur.

 

 

From one of the highest towns in the world, Potosi, Bolivia at 4090m. This was one of the places where colonial silver was exploited.

Pao de Acucar

Christ the Redeemer overlooking Sugarloaf mountain

YES!!! Finally a card from my wishlist (only in my head this wishlist)
but what is Pao de Acucar (Sugarloaf mountain)

The name "Sugarloaf" was coined in the 16th century by the Portugese during the heyday of the sugar cane trade in Brazil. Blocks of sugar were placed in conical molds made of clay to  be transported on ships. The shape given by these molds was similar to the peak , hence the name.

The amazing view of one of the largest art deco statue stands 30 metres tall. It weighs 365 tonnes and was constructed between 1922 and 1931.

A country on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America. It is bordered by French Guiana to the east, Guyana to the west, Brazil to the South. Suriname was colonized by the English and the Dutch in the 17th century.

Brazil #3

Sao Paulo - Cable-stayed Bridge Octavio Frias de Oliveira - Inaugurated in May, 2008 the bridge connects avenue Jornalista Roberto Marinho to marginal Pinheiros and has a capacity for 8 thousand cars per hour. The "X" shaped tower is 138 meters high (few meters less than Italia building) and 144 steel cables that themselves weigh 492 tons. It is the largest cable-stayed bridge on a curve in the world.

Macchu Picchu

It was known to the scientific world in 1911 and made a UNESCO WHS in 1983.
It is also the end point of the South American hike, the Inca Trail.
I hope one day to see it in person!

Easter Island, it's always been a mystery how the statues got to the coast from the quarry. National Geographic recently had an article and it's been suggested that the statues were made to walk by swinging with ropes.
