Pangkor Island

Pangkor Island (locally Pulau Pangkor) is a resort island off the coast of Perak, Malaysia. It has a population of approximately 25,000. Nearby islands include Pangkor Laut Island, Talang Island,Giam Island (Pulau Giam) and Mentagor Island (Pulau Mentagor). The major industries of the island are tourism and fishing.

Historically, Pangkor was a refuge for local fishermen, merchants and pirates. In the 17th century, the Dutch built a fort in an effort to control the Perak tin trade known as the Dutch Fort. In 1874, it was the location of a historical treaty between the British government and a contender for the Perak throne (the Pangkor Treaty), which began the British colonial domination of the Malay Peninsula. The old British name for the Pangkor Island group was the Dindings.

Perak Man, Lenggong Valley

Sent: Received: Travelled:
The Lenggong valley in Hulu Perak is one of Peninsular Malaysia's most important areas for archaeology, as excavations have revealed many traces of Malaysia's prehistory. It is the site of the oldest known place of human activity in the Peninsula. Today it is still a rural area, with small kampongs surrounded by green vegetation and limestone hills. Lenggong can be likened to an open-air museum, and is home to legends, skeletons, cave drawings and precious finds such as jewellery, pottery, weapons and stone tools. Many of the caves in the Lenggong area have revealed evidence of ancient humans having lived and hunted in this area.
The Lenggong Valley was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site on 30 June 2012.

Thanks to KKKhor for this special postcard with official seal from
the Lenggong Archaeological Museum. I love going to museums
to see the natural history or archealogy. A similiar one that I went to
was the Java Man site in Sangiran, Java four years ago ^_^

Ipoh Coffee

Hahaha Thanks to KKKhor for this yummy postcard of the sweet
egg tart and Ipoh White coffee. This card I won for posting a
picture of my coffee and Ipoh White Coffee sachet before 10am in the
Malaysian postcrosser's page. Instead of a stamp ,it is a metered stamp
from the automated postal machine in Peninsular Malaysia. I've only ever
seen such Postal machines in Portugal and Spain!

Old uncle with coffee cup

In Malaysia, we call elderly men "uncle" as a sign of respect, eventhough
they are not related to us. This street art was almost erased by the local
municipality in Ipoh, Perak, as it had a resemblance to a former communist
leader called Chin Peng.
Ipoh town is famous for their brand of roasted coffee called Ipoh White Coffee,
which comes from their different roasting method. Ernest Zacharevic
who made Penang more colourful with his street art has painted a few new
murals in Ipoh. Can't wait to see more of them!
Thanks to Solehah for this lovely card!
