Queen Elizabeth 80th birthday stamps

Celebrating the 80th birthday of Queen Elizabeth
issued in 2006.

Each of the eight pictures, drawn from archives of royal photographs over the decades, has been personally approved by the Queen and all but one of the informal portraits show her smiling warmly. The exception is a photograph from 1931, when she was five, in which she is gently resting her head, with her eyes closed, on the shoulder of her mother, then the Duchess of York and, later, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

The first stamp is a photograph of the Queen at a state banquet in Ottawa in 1951 when she was 25, while the second is a portrait of her in 1960, aged 34.
The third is a side-on photograph of the Queen, wearing a hat, meeting dignitaries at Heathrow Airport in 2001, when she was 75.
The fifth shows her laughing and wearing sunglasses on board Britannia in 1972, aged 46, and the sixth shows her with a horse at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 1985, when she was 59.
The seventh stamp in the 80th birthday series shows a portrait of her from 1940 when she was 14.
The eight shows her with Prince Philip in 1950, when she was 24 and, three years after the couple married.
Thank you very much Agnes for this amazing card! (postcrossing.com)
