Hoan Kiem Lake

The "Ao Dai" with its elegant and flattering look has long been considered to be the traditional dress for Vietnamese women. Early versions of the Ao Dai dated from 1744 when Lord Vu Vuong of the Nguyen Dynasty issued a decree that both men and women should wear an ensemble of trousers and a gown fastened with buttons in the front.

Hoi An girl

A surprise card that came into my mailbox, a card showing a girl in

the long traditional dress of Vietnam, similar to the Qi Pao dress worn

in the oldern days of China and Hong Kong. I really love this street view,

showing the old shop front , hanging lanterns, and mossy roof!

He was a key figure in the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, as well as the People’s Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and the Việt Cộng (NLF or VC) during the Vietnam War.

Lanterns of Vietnam

 

Every full moon nights, all electric lights are switched off in the old quarters of Hoi An. When the lanterns are lighted, they create a cozy and amazing atmosphere in the ancient town.

 

It's amazing to know that they continue this tradition,what a magical world it creates!

Yao people

 Red Dzao people in Sapa

The Yao nationality (its great majority branch is also known as Mien; Traditional Chinese: 瑤族, Simplified Chinese: 瑶族, Pinyin:Yáo zú; Vietnamese: người Dao) is a government classification for various minorities in China. They form one of the 55 ethnic minority groups officially recognized by the People's Republic of China, where they reside in the mountainous terrain of the southwest and south. They also form one of the 54 ethnic groups officially recognized by Vietnam.

Hue, Vietnam

 

Kinh thành Huế , The Imperial City in Hue, is a walled fortress and palace in the former capital of Vietnam.

In the early morning hours of January 31, 1968, as part of the Tet Offensive a Division-sized force of North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong soldiers launched a coordinated attack on Huế seizing most of the city. During the initial phases of the Battle of Hue, due to Huế's religious and cultural status, Allied forces were ordered not to bomb or shell the city, for fear of destroying the historic structures; but as casualties mounted in the house-to-house fighting these restrictions were progressively lifted and the fighting caused substantial damage to the Imperial City. Out of 160 buildings only 10 major sites remain because of the battle, such as the Thái Hòa and Cần Thanh temples, Thế Miếu, and Hiển Lâm Các. The city was made a UNESCO site in 1993. The buildings that still remain are being restored and preserved. The latest and so far the largest restoration project is planned to conclude in 2015.
