Khotyn Fortress, Ukraine

 

The Khotyn Fortress is a fortification complex located on the right bank of the Dniester River in Khotyn, Chernivtsi Oblast (province) of western Ukraine. It is situated on a territory of the historical northern Bessarabia region which was split in 1940 between Ukraine and Moldova. The fortress is also located in a close proximity to another famous the Old Kam'yanets Castle of Kamianets-Podilskyi.
Construction on the current Khotyn fortress was started in 1325, while major improvements were made in the 1380s and in the 1460s.
The fortress is a large tourist attraction for the area and Ukraine. In 2007, the fortress was named one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine.It is also a National Ukrainian Architectural Preserve as of 2000.

Chernivtsi National University is the leading Ukrainian institution for higher education in northern Bukovina, in Chernivtsi, a city in western Ukraine. The architectural ensemble of the main campus of the university, the Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans is included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Swan's Nest

 

The Swallow's Nest is a decorative castle located between Yalta and Alupka on the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine. It was built between 1911 and 1912 in Gaspra, on top of the 40-metre (130 ft) high Aurora Cliff, to a Neo-Gothic design by the Russian architect Leonid Sherwood. The castle overlooks the Cape of Ai-Todor on the Black Sea coast and is located near the remains of the Roman castrum of Charax.The Swallow's Nest is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the Crimea, becoming the symbol of the Crimea's southern coastline.

Motanka doll

 

The Montaka doll is typically found in most Ukrainian households. An ancient Ukrainian ragdoll traditional, it symbolizes fertility and procreation and holds ritual meaning. Sick children would be given Motankas as it is believed the doll would take away their sickness or young ladies would make their Motankas while singing wedding songs in hopes of catching a groom. Now they are a popular souvenirs or gifts.
