Mongolia

Bulgan  is a town, administrative centre of Bulgan province of Mongolia.  It is located at the site of the former Daichin Wangiin Khüree monastery at an elevation of 1,208 metres (3,963 ft) and 468 kilometres (291 mi) from Ulaanbaatar.

Uran Togoo Tulga Nature Reserve (1600 hectare), about 60 km west of Bulgan, is famous for its extinct volcanoes, e.g. Uran Uul.

Khovd, Mongolia

Khovd  is one of the 21 aimags (provinces) of Mongolia, located in the west of the country. Its capital is also named Khovd.

The Khovd province is approximately 1,580 km from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital. It takes its name from the Khovd River, which is located in this province.

The region around the Khovd city is famous in Mongolia for its watermelon crop. There is a sizable hydroelectric dambuilding project underway that will theoretically generate enough electricity to power the three most western aimags (Uvs, Bayan-Ölgii, and Khovd). The city of Khovd is connected to the Russian power grid and subject to blackouts if it falls behind in its payments. Domestic and international tourism and sports hunting have always been a sizable industry of Khovd province with natural beauty such as fresh and salt water lakes, snow-capped mountains, green valleys and caves as well as ancient rock paintings and fortresses being the main sightseeing attractions.

Animal herding is the main economy of this province.

Mongolia

The area of what is now Mongolia has been ruled by various nomadic empires, including the Xiongnu, the Xianbei, the Rouran, the Goturks, and others. In 1206, Genghis Khan founded the Mongol Empire, and his grandson Kublai Khan conquered China to establish the Yuan Dynasty. After the collapse of the Yuan, the Mongols retreated to Mongolia and resumed their earlier pattern of factional conflict and occasional raids on the Chinese borderlands.
