Montparnasse Derailment

22 October 1895

The Montparnasse derailment occurred at 4 pm on October 22, 1895 when the Granville–Paris Express overran the buffer stop at its Gare Montparnasse terminus. With the train several minutes late and the driver trying to make up for lost time, it entered the station too fast and the train air brake failed. After running through the buffer stop, the train crossed the station concourse and crashed through the station wall; the locomotive fell onto the Place de Rennes below, where it stood on its nose. A woman in the street below was killed by falling masonry. The engineer was fined 50 francs and one of the guards 25 francs.

Travelling by train

Received a card showing a vendor selling goods to folks in the train.
Thanks to the Taiwanese postcrosser who sent this card showing a
"Scenes of Life". Unfortunately I couldn't read what was written as
it is in Chinese characters :p

Argel, Suceava

Tried to wiki Argel but it has no entry in Wikipedia. Argel is in the county of Suceava
and I just found out there are a whopping 41 counties of Romania. Now I wonder if I can
possibly get all of them, so far I have about 20 Romanian postcards, will be having a fun time
reading up on wiki tonight before I sleep hehe Thank you Marius for this incredibly beautiful
view of this train from Northern Romania, just wow!
